4 out of 5 commissioners agree

Regional promotion of SRQ and limited use of a new stadium has a beginning price tag of $31 million dollars.

Some of the goodies included in the deal...
    A plaque commemorating Ed Smith
    A 30 year bond
(now being backed by public taxes)
A yearly maintenance bill starting at $125 thousand
A possible $1 million environmental clean up bill
Not less than 21 days use of new stadium.
"OWN A TIMESHARE" flashes through my mind when I think of this!
What else ... oh yeah. We get to portray Carey Grant!
Doug, I think you already suffered a blow to the head.

The public input portion of the meeting was a joke.   Most commissioners have their minds made up.
When Dr. Porter spoke, Barbetta tried to equate the operation of the airport and Ringling Museum to the theory of handing millions over to MLB.
Another hotelier said he wasn't in agreement of raising taxes. He stated promotion of SRQ needed to be increased. Patterson shot back "you want the county to pay for that?" Well, yes Nora, the county could very well increase the already low promotions budget without raising taxes. They divert so much money from one fund to another and one project to another it's amazing anyone knows what's going on. PLUS... I'm seeing commissioners with their hand out to the government to pay for this stadium.
So anyway. The "tradition" lives on. All at tax payer expense.
A thought crosses my mind about the cost of some traditions.
The Civil War had something to do with holding onto a tradition.
